Remembrances: The Family of Namy and Julia Joseph

Namy and Julia Joseph emigrated from Lebanon and arrived in Wendell in 1918, where they raised ten children and were part of the small Catholic community that founded St. Eugene Church. Namy peddled dry goods, first on foot and then by cart. Eventually, Namy built and ran a small neighborhood store next to the family home at the corner of Cook St and what is now Wendell Falls Parkway, and owned a restaurant on Main St. Namy and Julia’s granddaughter…

Profits from the Wendell Historical Society Reverse Raffle benefit  a future museum featuring Wendell’s town history.  The raffle is Thursday, September 20th at 7 p.m. at the Wendell Community Center.  Tickets are $100 with a possible grand prize of $10,000.  The ticket price includes a meal for two with food from the White Swan Restaurant.   Tickets are on sell at Baynes & Company in Wendell or call Hugh Cashion at 919-365-6313

When presenting a program for the Wendell Historical Society last year, Rick Walton was approached by his friend and historian Ray Hinnant, who asked him if he knew where to find a list of World War One Soldiers from Wendell. After investigating, he discovered that, in fact, there is no single repository for a list like this, so using multiple resources, he designed a database to gather the information and create one.
